Chicago Bulls to Retire Derrick Rose's No. 1 Jersey Next Season

Honoring the Youngest MVP in NBA History

The Chicago Bulls have announced that they will retire Derrick Rose's No. 1 jersey during the 2025-26 NBA season. Rose, a Chicago native, played eight seasons with the Bulls and became the youngest MVP in NBA history. He was the top pick in the 2008 NBA draft, won Rookie of the Year in 2009, and received the MVP award in 2011.

Rose expressed his desire to see his jersey hanging in the United Center rafters, and no Bulls player has worn his iconic No. 1 since he was traded to the New York Knicks in 2016. Throughout his career, Rose scored 12,573 points and made 3,770 assists in 723 games, playing for several teams including the Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Memphis Grizzlies.

The Bulls have previously retired the jerseys of Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan, and Scottie Pippen. They also honor former coach Phil Jackson and former general manager Jerry Krause with banners. The team will host Derrick Rose Night during a game against the Knicks, featuring special shooting shirts and the unveiling of the Derrick Rose Atrium Experience, showcasing memorabilia from his career.

Rose believes that having his number retired, along with his other achievements, will solidify his place in NBA history.
